About project
우리 선조들은 마당에 앉아 휴식을 취해왔다. 현대사회에는 베란다, 발코니, 마당정원 같은 공간은 존재하나 전통의 마당과 같이 오로지 비워진 공간은 없다. 여기서 말하는 비워진 공간의 마당이란, 완전히 물리적으로 비워진 공간이 아니라 자연을 담고, 공간과 공간을 연결하고, 이웃과의 소통을 담아내는 무한한 가능성이 있는 비움의 공간을 뜻한다.
우리는 서울의 시골이라 불리우는 서울 종로구 부암동을 사이트로, 마당의 역할을 하고 도심 속 비움과 여유, 소통의 가치를 담는 호텔을 제시한다. 의도적 비움으로 생기는 우연적인 심리적 채움을 얻는 호텔, 휴식과 소비만으로 국한되지 않고 과거의 마당처럼 지역 주민과의 상생하여 지역에도 긍정적인 가치를 더해주는 공간으로써의 호텔을 디자인하고자 한다.
<호텔비움>은 주민들과 함께 사용할 수 있는 공용공간과 커넥팅 스탠다드룸을 담은 <같이채움>과, 독채형 객실로만 이뤄진 플랫형 <홀로채움> 두 가지로 구성된다. 발이 닿는 주민들, 호텔을 찾는 고객들에게 <호텔비움>이 의도적인 비움을 통해, 우연적인 심리적 채움을 얻는 공간이 되길 기대한다.
Our ancestors have been resting in the yard called ‘madang’. In modern society, there are spaces such as veranda, balconies, and artificial gardens, but there is no empty space such as korean traditional madang. The empty space of madang is not a completely physical empty space, but an with infinite possibilities that contains nature, connects space to space, and capture communication with neighbors.
We present a hotel in Buam-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, called the countryside of Seoul, that serves as a madang and contains the value of emptiness, relaxation and communication in the city. we aim to design a hotel that gains accidental psychological fillings caused by intentional emptiness, not just limited to rest and consumption, but as a space that coexists with local residents and adds positive value to the region.
<Hotel BIUM> is consisted of two different types, '같이채움' (fill together) containing public spaces and connecting standard rooms that can be used with residents, and '홀로채움' (fill alone) which consists of private rooms. For residents and customers who visit the hotel, we hope that <Hotel BIUM> will be a place to gain accidental psychological fillings through intentional emptiness.
